The IHSAA boys sectional tournament gets underway next week, and in Sectional #44, Class 2A at South Ripley, Coach B.J. McAlister’s Pacers will kick off the tourney.
Switzerland County will play Lawrenceburg this Tuesday, March 1st, at 7 p.m. in Tuesday’s only game.
The Pacers currently hold a record of 9-11 with tomorrow (Friday) night’s regular season finale at Madison still to play; while Lawrenceburg has a record of 3-15 with regular season games last night (Wednesday) at Southwestern and a home game with Oldenburg Academy tomorrow (Friday).
Lawrenceburg defeated Switzerland County on January 6th in the opening round of the Rivertown Classic Tournament by a score of 50-47; and the Pacers extracted some revenge with a win at home on February 10th by a score of 61-48.
This could also be the final time that the two squads meet in tournament play, as new state enrollment figures show Lawrenceburg moving up to Class 3A beginning next year.
There will be two games on Wednesday night, with the opener featuring Hauser (9-11) and Milan (5-13 with two games to play) at 6 p.m.; followed by South Ripley (9-9 with two games to play) and Southwestern (7-12 with a game left).
The winner of Tuesday night’s Switzerland County-Lawrenceburg matchup draws a difficult assignment in Friday night’s semifinal, as they will face North Decatur, who at 16-3 overall figures to be the Sectional favorite. That game will begin at 6 p.m.
Friday night’s second game will feature the winners of the two Wednesday night games.
The winners of the Friday night semifinals will then meet for the Sectional championship on Saturday night, March 5th at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the South Ripley Sectional are $6 per session, or a pass for all of the sessions is $10. Both kinds of tickets will be available at the door Tuesday night.
