Bev Whitely is ‘Artist of the Month’ at CAC

The Community Art Center has announced that Bev Whitely as the April Artist of the Month.

Beverly is a wife, mother, Histologist and potter. She was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland which is located on the Chesapeake Bay. She grew up in the Baltimore, Maryland area and received her education and Histology licensing at the Hartford Memorial Hospital for Histology, and the University of Maryland.

Beverly married her husband Gene in 1974. They worked and lived in the Baltimore area until 1980. She and Gene have been blessed over the years with three daughters, and now five grandchildren.

Bev began studying pottery with the Baltimore Potters Guild in 1975 . She continued with the guild where she learned throwing, slab building, glaze preparation, and firing. She made her first purchase on a “Krebs Kick Wheel” and Paragon Kiln in 1976.

After moving to Indiana, she began working with Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals. In 2015 Bev retired from Lilly. Having family still in Maryland, and as far west as Colorado she and Gene decided to take a middle ground and look for a retirement home more central, and close to a daughter living in Kentucky. They found a retirement home right here in Vevay.

Bev brought the kick wheel and kiln to Vevay with her, and has found that in retirement she has the most time she has ever had to give to her love of pottery. Bev loves creating pottery and spending as much time as she can with her family.
