It’s me again trying to get some news out from places around Bennington and all the other little places in the area that might have something worth writing about.
Louisea Frazier recently spent five days in KDH in Madison with breathing problems but is doing much better now. Louisea lives over on 250 on the other side of Fairview. Stay well friend! The way I got the news was by daughter Debbie crossing my path down at KDH and Debbie was also having a little eye problem so both of you gals try to stay well.
We had the Bovard reunion on the 4th of July at Bovard Woods at Aberdeen with a large crown attending. There was family there from Texas, Arizona, Georgia and Ohio and it was quite a day. Ronnie Lieve came from Rising Sun and I asked him where his mom Wilma was but he said it was too hot for her to get out. Wilma is a dear friend and we don’t see her very often but I want you to know I think about you.
Well do I have a story to tell you about my daughter Rosemary. She has been losing a lot of weight and going to the YMCA, so a couple of weeks ago she said that they wanted all her family to come down to the YMCA on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. I said, “I suppose they are going to give her an award for losing so much weight.” The clan all gathers at the YMCA at 4 p.m. and the lady opens the door to the pool, well there is no one out there except our local newspaper man Pat and Wayne Springer, a well known photographer in the county. I thought my goodness they are goin all out for Rosie. Then across the pool, which has no one in it, comes Rosemary with her bathing suit on and a swim cap and goggles. She waves at us and jumps in the pool, which is nine feet deep and I scream “she can’t swim.” Here is where the story gets good. She started swimming and swam the whole length of the pool. Well let me tell you, the whole crowd was clapping and crying as she made her way to us. I will never be any more proud of her than I was that moment because I know how frightened she had been of water for so many years. You see, when she was 5 years old she almost drowned in a lake we were staying at. Thanks to her wonderful swim instructor, Jan Biller, who stayed right by her side upon the side of the pool.
My husband Bob had knee replacement surgery on June 5th and is doing okay. I want to thank everyone for the nice things they have done for us since his surgery. Carla, Dana Swanson and Kevin McBride for mowing our yard. Also to Glo Asbury, Daisy Swanson, Dara Swanson, Carla, Teresa, Rosemary, Lavina Swartz, Jamie and Lori Peters, Debbie Asbury, Roseann Asbury, Steve and Rita Griswold, Tina and Jim Wingate and Steve Lyons for remembering us and bringing food.
Well Glenn Bovard had his big 4th of July party on Saturday evening at the family farm at Aberdeen and you can’t believe the beautiful fireworks. Glenn and Jamie Peters started days ago getting ready along with Kassie Bovard and Lori Peters and Glenn’s friend Adam. Then all the family, Steve, Teresa, Carla, Rosemary, Caleb Jeremy, Elijah, and Brittany were mowing and pulling weeds and cleaning up the building for the food and and the band a place to play. There were approximately 350 people who showed up for the evening to eat and enjoy the fireworks. Glenn’s dog Charlie passed away over the weekend and it was a heartbreak as he was a wonderful pet.
The Zook family up on the corner of 250 and Bennington Pike is building a new house and we stopped and looked at it yesterday. It is going to have 7 bedrooms up stairs and is quite a home. Mr. Zook has his mums all started for this fall. He has about 5000.
Glenn recently tore down the former Slawson house on Bennington Pike. It was sad to see it go. I remember playing there when I was a little girl with Tom Manuel’s daughters. Teresa talked about calling RD Slawson when Glenn was tearing the house down but she thought it was better not to as it would have been a heart break for him.
My friend Ida Catanzaro passed away on Sunday. My deepest sympathy to Tony and Peggy and boys.
If you folks want to have your news put in the paper you can call and leave it on my answering machine and I will get it in the paper sooner or later. So how does that sound?
Digger and Put Vannorstran came from Tennessee for the Bovard 4th of July party at the farm.
Happy Birthday to my granddaughter Rachel Springer.
Emma Sullivan is spending a week with relatives in California. She flew out by herself.
Bella Robinson is spending a vacation with her mom and grandma in Mississippi this week.
Rita Griswold came and played the piano for church at Bennington — for us when Chrissi was gone.
Kevin McBride came and mowed the yard for us last week (Bobs grandson).
Bob had quite a time after his surgery — lost 24 1/2 lbs but is doing okay now. He’s going back to work next week.
A terrible accident happened up on Pleasant Grove Road on Friday afternoon when a group of men were tearing down a barn and it fell on them. All of them were taken to various hospitals. Our prayers are with them.
Lavina Swartz and Betty Griswold spent Monday with Teresa Lyons. Happy 70th birthday to Levi Swartz.
