Ben Curran earns ‘Marion Crawley Award’ Scholarship


Switzerland County senior basketball player Ben Curran has been honored by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association as one of this year’s recipients of the Marion Crawley Award Scholarship.

He is one of only 42 Indiana High School seniors to receive this award. The IBCA honored 18 boys players; 15 girls players, and 4 student managers. Ben was nominated by his coach, Adam Dennis.

Criteria to be considered for the Marion Crawley Award includes achievement in basketball; achievement in academics; participation in extra curricular activities; and service to one’s school and community.

Marion Crawley was a four-time boys basketball state champion coach, two with the Washington Hatchets and two with the Lafayette Jeff Bronchos. He amassed 644 career wins, and later became the first executive director of the IBCA.

The IBCA is a statewide coaches group with more than 2,600 members; and presents these scholarships in the amount of $750. The organization also presents scholarships in the names of Junior Mannies and Pat Aikman.

Ben is the son of Joanne Sullivan of near Vevay; and he will be attending Indiana University in the fall.
