A group of volunteers from Belterra Casino Resort and Spa worked on landscaping at the home of Tanya Curry near Quercus Grove on Saturday as part of their annual “Belterra Beautification” program.
Each year, Belterra and Vevay Newspapers asks readers to submit the names of deserving residents of the county that could use Belterra’s help with landscaping their property.
This year, Rhonda Cutter nominated her mother, Tanya Curry, for the award; and Belterra publicly made the announcement in July, but waited on more suitable weather before undertaking the landscaping project.
Tanya Curry was given a budget of $2,500 to be used for any plants or landscaping items that she wished.
The program is spearheaded by Kevin Kaufman, general manager of Belterra Casino Resort and Spa; and on Saturday he was accompanied by other members of Belterra’s management team and other volunteers.
In her letter of recommendation for her mother, Rhonda Cutter wrote, in part:
“My mother is the mother everyone dreams of having. She’s loving, caring, giving, and so passionate when it comes to her family and flowers. My dad, James, and she were married for 54 years before he died two years ago in March. They renewed their wedding vows on their 50th wedding anniversary at the Fairview Methodist Church with their children being their wedding party and their great grandchildren serving as ring bearers and flower girls.
“They lived in the same homeplace for all those years up to the time my dad passed away and my mother remained there for another two years until October of 2006 when she sold the homeplace. This was not an easy task for her. Not only was she leaving her memories behind, but she had a flower garden that could have been in any flower magazine as a model flower garden….
“I look around in today’s world and I feel sorry for the children who have never experienced the feeling of love and support that my parents gave me. They have never failed to support me in every aspect of life, and for that I am applying for the beautification project for my mother to try and repay her for all of her love.”
