Basketball tourney action is set

With schools not in session due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, Switzerland County basektball teams are still competing in tournaments in the coming weeks.

Switzerland County athletic director David Todd has provided information about all of the tournaments so Pacer fans can follow the action.

– Coach Wayne Ellegood’s Switzerland County Lady Pacer jayvee and varsity teams will compete once again in the Lady Cub Classic at Franklin Community High School this Saturday, January 2nd.

Beginning at 9 a.m. that morning, Switzerland County’s junior varsity will play Gary Wallace on Court Three; while Franklin will play West Vigo on Court Two

The winners of those two games will then play at 2:30 p.m. for the junior varsity championship on Court Two; while the two semifinal losing teams will play a consolation game at 2:30 p.m. on Court Three.

The varsity portion of the tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. that morning; with the same matchups – West Vigo playing Franklin at 10 a.m.; followed by Switzerland County versus Gary Wallace at noon. Those games will be played in the Main Gym at Franklin Community High School.

The consolation game for the varsity will be played that night at 6 p.m.; followed by the championship game set for approximately 7:30 p.m.

Switzerland County enters the tourney as the only team with a winning record, coming in at 6-3 after Tuesday night’s win over Borden.

Franklin is 5-5 on the year; Gary Wallace is 4-6; and West Vigo is 1-9.

– Both the boys and girls teams will participate in the annual Rivertown Classic Tournament at South Dearborn High School, January 6th-9th.

On Wednesday, January 6th, the girls semifinals will be played, with Switzerland County and South Dearborn playing in the first contest at 6 p.m.; followed by Lawrenceburg and Rising Sun playing at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Switzerland County High School Band will be playing during the first game on Wednesday night.

On Thursday, January 7th, the boys semifinals will be played, with the same matchups: Switzerland County and South Dearborn playing in the first game at 6 p.m.; followed by Lawrenceburg and Rising Sun playing at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The consolation games will then be played on Friday night, January 8th, with the girls consolation game beginning at 6 p.m. and the boys game beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Also on Friday, the annual cheerleading competition will be held between games, with the winning squad announced at halftime of the boys game.

The two championship games will then be played on Saturday, January 9th, with the girls title tilt beginning at 6 p.m. and the boys championship contest beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The winning cheerleading squad will also be performing on championship night.
