Baseball team splits pair of contests

The Switzerland County High School varsity baseball team split a pair of games last week as its season gets underway.

Last Tuesday the Pacers fell to Carroll County by a score of 4-3, even though Switzerland County out-hit the Panthers by a 5-4 count.

Nate Hunter had a single and a run scored; Hunter Jordan also scored a run; Kyle Konkle had a single and a run scored; and Jimmy Meyer added a single. Zach Whitaker and Douglas Ray also added singles in the loss.

On the mound: Tanner Jones went three innings, striking out three, allowing four walks, two hits, and four earned runs. Kyle Konkle pitched the other four innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits.

The Pacers then bounced back with a 2-1 win over South Dearborn.

Switzerland County garnered four hits on the night, with Bob Tressler’s single and Kyle Konkle’s double highlighting a two-run first inning that would prove to be all the Pacers would need to earn the win.

Tanner Jones and Bob Tressler scored the two runs.

Bob Tressler also had a double in the fifth inning; and Brett Chase added a single in the sixth.

Bob Tressler also did damage on the mound, pitching 5 2/3rds innings, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit and one run, which was unearned.

Nate Hunter finished up the game, pitching 1 1/3rd innings and striking out three.
