The Switzerland County varsity baseball team picked up its first win of the season last Friday night with a victory over Jac-Cen-Del, 5-4.
Cody Peters got the win on the mound, as he pitched 4 2/3-innings before giving way to Chancey May, who finished out the game for the save.
The Pacers scored their five runs on five hits; as the Jac-Cen-Del pitcher walked nine Switzerland County hitters.
The Pacers scored three runs in the second inning, and the got single runs in the third and fourth innings to seal the win. The Eagles scored a lone run in the opening inning, and then posted two runs in the fourth stanza and a single run in the fifth.
Cody Peters was 1-for-3 at the plate; Chancey May was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in; Michael Otter was 1-for-2; and T.J. Sefton was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
On Monday night the Pacers fell to South Ripley by a final score of 7-5.
Coach Paul Hewitt said that the Pacers were sluggish at the plate, as the team suffered through 10 strikeouts in the game.
Switzerland County got two runs in the top of the second to match the pair that the Raiders got in the bottom of the first, but South Ripley came back with three more in the bottom of the second. The Pacers then scored two more runs in the top of the sixth and a single run in the seventh; but the Raiders got two more in the bottom of the sixth and then held on for the victory.
Chancey May started on the mound with Zach Getz behind the plate — and the junior hurler gave up nine hits but only walked three while striking out seven over five innings of work.
Travis Webster came on in the sixth inning to finish the game on the mound.
Zach Getz was 2-for-3 at the plate; Cody Peters was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in; Chancey May was 2-for-4 with a double; Bryan Levell was 2-for-4 with an RBI; Michael Otter had a hit and an RBI; and Aaron Moore had a hit.
