
Opening day for the Rising Sun baseball has been postponed until tonight (Thursday) when they host Ohio River Valley Conference foe Shawe.
Coach Kevin Wirsch’s Shiners were to open play against Oldenburg Academy on Wednesday but the Twisters did not have enough players with the required number of practices. The game has not been rescheduled at this time.
Rising Sun is ranked #3 in the Class A pre-season rankings and defending Sectional #60 champion which includes Shawe and Oldenburg.
The Shiners will travel to LAwrenceburg on Monday and host Trinity Lutheran on Wednesday in non-conference contests. They return to ORVC action on April 11th when they host Southwestern (Hanover).
Senior Mitchell Morris leads the Rising Sun pitching staff after the lefty posted a 9-4 record a year ago with a 1.25 and 85 strikeouts. He signed earlier this year to play at Sinclair Community College in Ohio.
Other seniors returning include catcher Brady Murray (.453 BA, leading RBI), center-fielder Kurtis Armstrong (.351 BA, leader in doubles) and shortstop Tyler Camden (.278).
Rising Sun was 17-6 including 10-2 in ORVC play last season.
