To the City of Rising Sun and its residents:

This year marks the beginning of the fourth and final year of my term as your city’s mayor. This experience is an honor and I m grateful for the responsibilities with which I have been entrusted. To say that I have learned a lot from this endeavor would be quite an understatement.

As with anything in life, there has been much to be proud of and there have also been things I wish had turned out differently. More than anything, I’ve learned that what our city is and what it strive to be is a testament to the quality of citizens we have living here. I can’t help but think how fitting former President George HW Bush’s “thousand points of lights” feels applicable to our great city. We are blessed to have many organizations that strive to improve the quality of life of our residents.

There  are times when each of them has led our city to reach for and become an even better version of ourselves. I want to personally say  thank you to all our City of Rising Sun employees as well as those serving on our city boards. Each of you have chosen to work here and serve our community because you care about making it better for everyone. You have given our city the strength necessary to move our city forward and make it such a desirable community to wive in, work in and raise a family within.

Over the last year, I have discussed this role and my future within it with my family. After careful consideration, I have chosen to not seek re-election as your city’s mayor. I want to again thank all our residents for this opportunity. I remain excited for our city’s future and will do whatever I can to help those willing to lead it into its next great chapter.

Please remember that we are stronger when we work together, rather than when we are trying to tear each other down.

 Thank you and God Bless”

Mayor Brent Bascom
