Parents, students, grandparents and everyday bargain hunters lined up early Tuesday morning to get a chance to purchase a Microsoft Surface device for $25 at the Rising Sun Ohio County School Administration Building.
Superintendent Branden Roeder showed up shortly before 7 a.m. to find no parking space and the line of customers extended down Henrietta Street.
The 175 devices were sold by 7:33. One person bought 12 but most bought three to five, according to Roeder. The line started at 5 a.m. and one person called and asked if they could hold one for his wife (who was in line) and had come from Muncie, Roeder reported.
“I did not expect this,” he said of the turnout. The school has 400 more Surfaces that must be reset before being made available. That should happen in the next week or so. Roeder added, there will be a limit and other restrictions.
