Banners to Honor Switzerland County Military Heroes

2165

The Switzerland County Veteran’s Council is sponsoring a Military Honor Banner project. This project is designed to honor any veteran from Switzerland County (past or present) that are currently active, those who have been honorably discharged, or died in the line of duty from any war, any branch of military.

There is a limited number of banners that can be installed on poles along Main Street, and Ferry Street. The banners will be displayed from May 1st through June 30th and again from October 1st through November 30th.

The banner will feature a military picture of the veteran, branch of service, rank, dates of service and any medals earned. The banner will be 18”x36”. They will be printed on heavy vinyl to withstand the weather.

Applications for the banner will be available January 1st, 2021 online and in the Vevay Newspaper. Each application must include at least a 5×7, preferably an 8×10 picture of the veteran in uniform. Pictures will be scanned and returned to the family. A copy of the veteran’s DD214 (discharge) must be provided for verification.

The cost of the banner will be $60, paid by applicant, payable to the Switzerland County Veteran’s Council, a 501C3 entity. The banner will be given to the applicant when the banner is taken down.

Any application received after the project limit, or the deadline, will be given first consideration for the next year’s project. Applications will be on a first come first serve basis until the limit is met.

What better way to honor the Veteran in your family than to have his picture and military record proudly displayed in your home town!

There will be more specific information released as January 1st approaches. This announcement will give families ample time to find pictures and gather information to be ready to apply as soon as it is time to do so.
