Band takes ‘Carnival’ to Columbus Saturday

The Rising Sun Shiner Pride Marching Band opens the 2018 season as they travel to Columbus North on Saturday, Sept. 8th for a 6:45 p.m. performance.
The show is entitled Carnival and features selections from The Carnival of Venice by Jean-Baptiste Arban, and The Carnival of Animals by Camille Saint-Saens.
Director Tyler Umpleby’s troops have moved up to Class AA with 46 musicians and nine guard members. They had competed in Class A (35 members and under) in the past.
Andrew Courter and Emma Davis are this year’s drum majors.
Other bands competing in AA are Connersville and Monrovia. Rising Sun will be the final band to compete in the early afternoon session with awards slated for 9:30 p.m.
The change is class means that Rising Sun would compete in the Midstates Finals in Miamisburg (OH) instead of at Norwood (where Switzerland County, Shawe, Southwestern and Lawrenceburg will compete in Class A). Defending Class A Archbishop Kettering Alter has moved to Class AA also.

Monica Theunissen and the Shiner Pride Band look to topple the competition this fall.

Following this weekend performance, Shiner Pride will compete at Taylor (OH) and at Campbell County in Alexandria (KY). They will make a return to Floyd Central High School in Floyd Knobs on Sept. 22nd and Springs Valley on Sept. 29th.
After a week off, the competition moves to Evansville before closing The annual community performance will be Friday, Oct. 19th.
Rising Sun returns to ISSMA competition this year as well. They will compete in the Evansville Regional on October 13th and could compete in the semi-state on Oct. 27th and possible state finals on Nov. 3rd. Or the band could compete at Simon Kenton (Ky) on Oct. 20th and Centerville (OH) on Oct. 27th prior to the ISSMA final on Saturday, Nov. 3rd.
