Ashley Bright connects on five three pointers in loss to Rebels


The Switzerland County Lady Pacers battled the Southwestern Lady Rebels last Thursday night, but fell to the Rebels by a final score of 73-47.

Lady Pacer April Thieman opened the scoring for the night; but the Lady Rebels then scored a three point bucket and scored nine straight points before Tanya Sefton connected on a basket.

Switzerland County’s offense then began to click, as Ashley Bright added two at the line, Morgan Ross connected on a basket, and Amber Smith finished the quarter with a three pointer. But the scoring for the Lady Pacers was not enough to gain on the Lady Rebel lead, as they finished the quarter trailing by a score of 19-11.

In the second quarter the Lady Pacers still couldn’t gain control of the ballgame, as the Lady Rebels outscored Switzerland County 19-10. Amber Smith connected on a three point bucket and also had a basket to add five points to the Lady Pacer side; while Ashley Bright also connected on a three pointer and two at the line, but the Lady Pacers still trailed at the half, 38-21.

During the third quarter, Ashley Bright and Tanya Sefton each connected three pointers; while Morgan Ross hit two buckets – adding four points. Megan McCarty was fouled on an attempt and added two at the line.

The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Pacers 18-12 during the third quarter, pushing the Lady Pacers into a deeper hole, trailing by 23 points, 56-33.

In the final quarter, the Lady Pacers continued scoring, with senior Ashley Bright connecting on three three point baskets. Morgan Ross added two buckets and Megan McCarty would add one at the line; but it was not enough to bring the Lady Pacers back from behind, and the game ended with a final score of 71-47.

Ashley Bright was top scorer for the Lady Pacers in double figures with 19 points, five three pointers and eight rebounds. Morgan Ross also finished in double figures, ending with 10 points. Amber Smith earned eight points, five rebounds and four assists; while Tanya Sefton finished with five points. Megan McCarty earned three points and seven rebounds; and April Thieman chipped in two points and five rebounds.


The Switzerland County Lady Pacer jayvee team lost to Southwestern, 47-27.

The top scorer for the Lady Pacers jayvee team was Lauren Chase earning five points. Maggie Armstrong, Karista Wengert, Jenna Daugherty, Carrie Truax and Christina Ahaus all finished with four points each. Chelsea Peters finished with the most steals, with four; while Maggie Armstrong finished with four assists. Carrie Truax had four rebounds and Shana Todd finished with three rebounds.
