Ashley Bright, Amber Smith hit for double figures in win over Tigers


The Switzerland County Lady Pacers earned a measure of revenge last Thursday night with a 50-39 victory over the Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers just over a week after Lawrenceburg defeated the Lady Pacers in the opening round of the Rivertown Classic Tournament.

The Lady Tigers opened the game’s scoring, but Amber Smith answered back in the first minute of the game with a three-pointer, followed by a Tanya Sefton bucket.

The Lady Tigers then took the lead 8-5 with two points from the foul line and two baskets; but Amber Smith was once again provided the answer for the Lady Pacers with another three-point connection to tie the score.

The Lawrenceburg team then scored another bucket to retake the lead; but the Lady Pacers then finished off the scoring in the last minute of the period with Megan McCarty scoring a basket and Ashley Bright hitting two at the line to close the period with a lead, 12-10.

Ashley Bright began the action in the second period of play by scoring a three-point basket; and April Thieman followed that with a bucket. Ashley Bright continued scoring during the quarter, including two from the charity stripe, and Megan McCarty and Brittany Hall also added a basket each while extending the lead heading to the locker room, 28-20.

The second half started, and once again with Pacers scored first as Ashley Bright connected on a bucket followed by a successful three-pointer and basket by Amber Smith – which expanded the lead to 11-points, 33-22.

The Lady Tigers had possession of the ball, but Ashley Bright stole the pass coming out of a timeout, and she finished the break off with a pass inside to Amber Smith, who scored another bucket.

Amber Smith then scored another three-pointer to finish off the points for the third quarter, which saw Switzerland County expand its lead to 38-24.

The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Pacers in the final quarter of play 15-12; but it was not enough as Switzerland County continued to hold its lead behind the shooting of Ashley Bright, April Thieman, and Amber Smith.

Amber Smith added the final points for the Lady Pacers at the line to finish off the win, 50-39.

The top scorer for the Lady Pacers was Ashley Bright, who finished in double figures with 23 points; and also had five rebounds, three assists and nine steals. Amber Smith also finished in double figures with 15 points, and contributed three rebounds.

Megan McCarty and April Thieman each finished with four points; while Brittany Hall and Tanya Sefton finished with two points each. Morgan Ross finished with a team-high six rebounds.


The jayvee team lost 25-15 to the Lady Tigers.

The top scorer for the junior varsity was Carrie Truax with six points and three rebounds; while Maggie Armstrong scored three points and finished with four rebounds. Casey Sharp, Karista Wengert and Shana Todd each finished with two points; and Karista Wengert also finished with four rebounds.

Switzerland County will return to the court this Tuesday, January 23rd at Rising Sun.
