On Saturday, November 10th, the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department received a call from the Ohio County Dispatch Center stating that it had received a call requesting assistance at the McAlister farm located on North Branch Road in Switzerland County.
The call came in at approximately 7:51 a.m.; and the caller reported locating items known to belong to a missing 91-year old man from Dearborn County, Indiana.
On Friday evening, November 9th at approximately 10 p.m., the Dearborn County Sheriff’s office sent a request to attempt to located a 91-year old male who was missing from the Aurora area. Information received by Switzerland County 911 said that the man frequented the McAlister farm to fish.
The farm area was searched by officers from the Switzerland County Sheriff’s office, and also members of the McAlister family, but nothing was found on Friday evening.
On Saturday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m., Switzerland County Sheriff Roy Leap reported that that Richard A. Brown of Aurora, age 91, had been located.
His vehicle was found fully submerged in a pond on the farm. Members of the Dearborn County Water Rescue team recovered the vehicle and found Richard Brown’s body inside the vehicle.
Switzerland County Coroner Lewis Fritter said that an autopsy was performed, and the preliminary results show that Richard Brown died from heart complications. Coroner Fritter is still awaiting the results of further toxicology tests.
Also at the scene were officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Dearborn County Water Rescue Unit.
