Another accident in the county leaves one critical

Switzerland County saw another severe automobile accident this week, as officers and emergency personnel responded to a one vehicle accident on State Road 56 west of Vevay.

Officials from the Switzerland County Sheriff’s department said that the investigation, but initial reports show that the vehicle was traveling east on highway 56 when it went off of the roadway for some reason.

The vehicle struck a telephone pole and then rolled over and caught fire.

There were four people in the vehicle at the time of the accident, but the Switzerland County Sheriff’s department was not identifying them at press time. Officers did confirm that there was one adult and three minors involved in the accident, and that all four are county residents.

The driver of the vehicle was airlifted to University Hospital in Cincinnati, where officers were told by hospital officials that the person is listed in critical condition at press time.

The three passengers in the vehicle were transported by Switzerland County EMS to King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. All three were stable at the time of transport, and no information as to whether or not they are still in the hospital was available at press time.

While responding to the accident, a fire truck from the Jefferson-Craig Volunteer Fire Department was damaged. Officers had no further information about the accident, other than to confirm that the truck was not part of the original accident.
