The Switzerland County Lady Pacers headed into the Christmas break last Thursday with a loss to the Jeffersonville Lady Red Devils by a score of 69-26. Jeffersonville is ranked second in the state in Class 4A.

The Lady Pacers played competitively with the Lady Red Devils in the first period, trailing only by three at the end of the quarter, 15-12.

Ashley Bright hit two three-pointers; Tanya Sefton scored a bucket and added two at the line; and Morgan Ross chipped in a basket to account for the Lady Pacer scoring.

The Lady Red Devils team consisted of 10 experienced players – five seniors and five juniors. The experience and class ranking started to show in the second quarter, as Jeffersonville outscored Switzerland County 17-9.

Amber Smith was the only Lady Pacer to score in the second period, connecting on three three-pointers.

The teams headed to the locker room with Jeffersonville leading by 11 points, 32-21.

A tough Jeffersonville defense and some bad shooting at the wrong time led to the Lady Pacers going scoreless in the entire third quarter. Jeffersonville, on the other hand, continued to apply pressure and make key shots, scoring 17 points in the period to put the game out of reach.

The Switzerland County offense didn’t get much better in the final quarter, as the Lady Pacers managed only five points – with Megan McCarty converting a two point runner in the lane and Amber Smith making another three-pointer.

Those would be the only points that Switzerland County would score in the entire second half, and the final part of the last period saw both teams go deep into their benches.

The final score saw Switzerland County lose by 43 points, 69-26.

The top scorer for the Lady Pacers was Amber Smith, who converted four three-pointers to account for her 12 points.

Ashley Bright scored six points – all on three-pointers; and Tanya Sefton finished with four points. Morgan Ross and Megan McCarty each finished with two points.
