From small engines to big business, Ohio County’s Allen Cutter has become a successful businessman and only has to go out the door to his house.

The owner of Cutters Mower, located at 4505 Downey Ridge in Ohio County, wants to thank his customers for making his business a success with an Open House celebrating his 35th anniversary in business from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29th.

No matter who you are or why you visited his rural sales and workshop, if you’re one of those customers he can tell you when you made your purchase, what you bought and where you live. It’s all recorded in a computer database.

That includes every Country Clipper mower, Efco trimmer, Core trimmer, Briggs and Stratton, Kawasaki, Honda, or Kohler engine.

The 1980 Rising Sun High School graduate started out at Southeastern Indiana Career Center.

His father Norman said put a sign out in the front yard. He started by selling 24 in the first year.

Now in his 17th year as one of the original Country Clipper, his sales with the company has earned him nine vacation cruise over those years.

“I don’t know what has made me so successful,” says Allen, “but they’ve been selling like hotcakes this spring.”

As of April 8th he had sold 230 zero turn mowers. He has sold 107 Efco products since 2010.

The merchandise includes chain saws, weed eaters, light gas models, blowers, back pack blowers, saws, trimmers and even shoulder straps.

He has sold 21 Core gas-less including 13 this spring.

He has a few push mowers.

Cutter has increased his wide distribution to include six in Northern Kentucky. He can rattle off owners in Bright, Harrison, Delhi, Scottsburg, Madison, Versailles, Patriot, Florence, Aurora, Dillsboro, and Vevay. He is proud to have sold three mowers to the city of Rising Sun. One of the latest sale was to somebody on Pribble Road.

March was a busy month for repairs also.

Jason White of Upper Grants Creek likes doing business with Allen because “he’s not trying to retire off of you. He talks to me as a human being. I told him there is no big hurry. But he gets ‘er done. After I got something fixed, he called me a week later to see how it was doing.”

Ever buy or get a mower fixed, only to get it home and it didn’t work the way you thought it would? Allen’s country location offers him plenty of area to test drive the equipment.

His success has allowed him to expand over the years. In 1987, he set up 30×40

In 1992, he added a showroom, in 2000 an office and more expansion in 2005.

One who hasn’t forgotten his roots. You’ll find Allen at the annual 4-H fair supporting today’s youth.

He’s employed a few part time workers and has a kid coming to work full time when he gets out of school.

Not much has changed since his 30th except his loving mother (Marcella) has passed on to be with his father.

Technology is new as he has a website (cuttersmowerrepair.com) and can be found on Facebook (Cutters Mower Repair). All major credit cards are accepted including Visa, Master Card, and American Express. Financing is available and there is even ApplePay. He can collect payments in the field in conjunction with his phone with blue-tooth and by swiping or chip.

T-shirts will be given to the first 25 customers. There will be food and drinks while meeting vendors and seeing the latest in mower and trimmer technologies
