Alisha Juilfs, a Switzerland County native living in Rising Sun, was fatally injured in a one vehicle accident last Friday morning near Canaan.
The 21-year old was traveling westbound on State Road 62 near Copeland Ridge Road at approximately 8:35 a.m. when her Dodge Neon crossed the center line of the roadway, struck an embankment, and rolled over.
Investigators with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said that the vehicle slid 25 feet before coming to a stop in the eastbound lane. Officers said that Alisha Juilfs was not wearing a seatbelt, and was partially ejected from the vehicle.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Alice Carlson Jackson.
Assisting the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department at the scene was the Canaan Fire Department and King’s Daughters’ Hospital EMS.

Alisha Dawn Juilfs was a 2005 graduate of Switzerland County High School, where she was a member of the flag corps and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.
Following her graduation she had attended Ivy Tech Community College, and had been admitted into the school’s registered nursing program.
She was well known around Vevay and the Switzerland County area through her job as a waitress at Roxano’s Restaurant for the past six years. She had many loyal customers, and enjoyed interacting with guests to the restaurant.
Alisha Juilfs also enjoyed music, animals, riding four-wheelers, scrapbooking, and attending truck pulls and mud runs. She attended the Milton Wesleyan Holiness Church and also Vevay Assembly Church.
She is survived by her mother and step father, Sheila and Chris Janson of Rising Sun; and her father and step mother, David and Robin Juilfs of Vevay.
She is also survived by her sister and brother in law, Amanda Juilfs and Chris Van Gundy of Vevay; niece Kaitlyn Juilfs; a half-sister, Cheyenne Juilfs of Vevay; two step-brothers: Kenny Janson of Florence, Kentucky; and Chris Mayhew of Warsaw, Kentucky; two step-sisters: Crystal Janson of Bright and Shannon Bladen of Vevay.
Also surviving are grandparents and other relatives; as well as her boyfriend, Josh Buchanan of Rising Sun.
