The adage says, “Save your best for last.”
Switzerland County freshman track sensation Aleiah Thomas did that on Tuesday night at the IHSAA Regional Track Meet held at Bloomington North High School – and as a result – she saved her best for next to the last.
The freshman cleared a career-best height of 5’3″ to finish third overall in the Regional, and will not advance to the State Finals, which will be held on Saturday, June 3rd, at Indiana University.
“Thomas was under tremendous pressure from a high jump field loaded with upperclassmen, but the freshman stood tall and delivered when it counted most,” head coach Adam Pietrykowski said.
Other Switzerland County athletes also excelled at the Regional.
Distance standout Leah Anders shaved more than a second off of her best time in the 800-meter run, narrowly missing a chance to join Thomas at State. Anders time was the second best in school history – 2:25.83.
Pietrykowski also hailed other career best performances, which came from Matty Anderson and MacKenzie Covington who ran career-best legs in the 3,200-meter relay.
“Overall it was a good day for the Lady Pacers, who earned 18th place in a field of more than 50 teams,” the coach said.
