Ohio and Switzerland counties have partnered to have a recycling center located in the former Plastics Molding Factory in East Enterprise. Ribbon cutting was held Friday, May 6th in the afternoon – in time for the annual recycling day on Saturday, May 7th. Bill Chipman, chairman of the group, worked to get the project finalized.
Laura Lovern was selected queen of the Rising Sun Prom on Saturday, May 7. Frank Cummings was named king.
The Ohio County Historical Society will host the all new 2005 edition of the Kelly Miller Circus in Rising Sun on Monday, May 16th, for two performances at the Riverfront Park, corner of Front and Plum streets. This year’s show features elephants, horses, and a cast of international circus stars under a beautiful circus big top. The event is a fundraiser for the Ohio County Historical Society.
The Ohio County Plan Commission will have a public hearing at the courthouse. Ordinance 2005-2 regulating the flood control required in a subdivision in Ohio County. The subdivision must assure the subdivision will minimize flood damage and adequate drainage is provided. Ordinance 2005-3 regulates the placement of mobile homes in Ohio County.
The Rising Sun girls track team won a triangular meet at Milan on Tuesday, May 3rd with Caitlin Sauerhage setting a new record in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:39.
Aryn Peters set a new high jump record (5’3″) to win the event at Monday’s Ohio River Valley Conference Junior High girls meet at South Ripley.
Rising Sun High School’s academic team won blue ribbons in two events at the 2005 Indiana Academic Super Bowl Competition. Shiner squads were first among area Class 4 schools in fine arts and in social studies. Rising Sun placed second in English and in science, and finished third in mathematics and the interdisciplinary round.

The Spring District 4-H, FFA contests were held recently in Brownstown High School. FFA members from the Rising Sun Chapter participating in the crops judging contest were: Elmer Horton, Gerald Messer, James Rush and Robert Stephenson. The group placed sixth. Robert Bailey and Jerald Obertate took part in the Forestry judging contest.

One hundred nineteen dogs were vaccinated last Friday and Saturday at the Rabies Clinic in Ohio County.
