9/11 observances set in the county
A pair of observances here in Switzerland County will honor and remember the tragedy of September 11th, 2001.
• The town of Patriot will hold its annual memorial service and candlelight vigil tomorrow (Friday, September 11th).
The event will begin at 7 p.m., with those attending being asked to gather in front of the Patriot Town Hall.
A candlelight walk will moved from Town Hall to the Patriot Memorial Park; and the community will then hold a Memorial Service.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the community was not able to hold its annual ‘Changing of the Flags’ ceremony on July 4th, so it will be held as a part of tomorrow night’s observance.
A piece of steel from one of the buildings destroyed by the 9/11 attacks is on display in the Memorial Park.
Everyone is invited to attend.
• The Florence Church of Christ will also hold its annual memorial observance tomorrow (Friday, September 11th0 beginning at 7 p.m.
The church members invite everyone to “Come and Stand with us as we Pledge allegiance to the Flag of The United States of America; sing Our National Anthem; and as we pray for 9-11 survivors and families, pray for first responders: EMS, fire, police; and as we pray for America.”
Pastor Roy Duckworth of the Florence Church of Christ points out that this is not a protest and it is not a political rally — but it is a meeting so that the events of September 11th, 2001 and how those events changed this nation may be remembered.
Everyone is invited and asked to wear a mask and observe social distancing.
