8th graders fall in Rivertown title tilt


The Switzerland County Middle School eighth grade basketball team lost in overtime in Saturday’s championship game of the Rivertown Classic held at South Dearborn.

In the semifinal game, Switzerland County defeated Rising Sun by a score of 44-23.

Alex Herbert led the Pacers with 11 points; while Riley Phagan finished with nine – all on three-pointers.

Gaige Cohen had seven points; Brett Chase had five points; Riley Pegg and Dalton Wagner had three points each; and Doug Ray, Michael Scott, and Zack Park each contributed two points.

In the other semifinal game, Greendale defeated South Dearborn 37-27, setting up the championship game between the Pacers and the Tigers.

In that game, the two teams needed overtime to decide things, and in the end Greendale escaped with a 35-33 win.

Riley Phagan led the way for the Pacers, finishing with 19 points.

Gaige Cohen had six points; Alex Herbert added four; and Doug Ray and Brett Chase each chipped in two points.

In the consolation game, South Dearborn defeated Rising Sun 34-27.


Last Thursday the Pacers traveled to Rising Sun and defeated the Shiners by a score of 36-29.

Alex Herbert led the Pacers with 17 points; while Riley Phagan finished with nine. Gaige Cohen had five points; Doug Ray finished with four; and Dalton Wagner added one point.
