8th grade girls win Tri-County Tourney

The eighth grade girls basketball team from Switzerland County Middle School traveled to Rising Sun last week to participate in the Tri-County Tournament; and the team earned the tourney title and remained in possession of the traveling trophy that it also earned last year.

– In the tournament’s first game, the Lady Pacers defeated St. Lawrence by a score of 27-14.

Taylar Jordan and McKayli Scudder were the leading scorers in the game with six points each; while Brooke Minch had four. Whitley Schirmer, Mallory Phagan, Veronika Perry, Mackenzie Covington, and Alysa Parr each had two points; and Cameron Ray added one point.

– In the second game, Switzerland County beat Sunman-Dearborn by a 22-14 count.

Whitley Schirmer led the balanced scoring attack with six points; while Taylar Jordan had five points and both McKayli Scudder and Brooke Minch had four. Alysa Parr finished with three.

– In the championship game, the Lady Pacers defeated Rising Sun by a score of 29-11.

Taylar Jordan had a big game, finishing with 12 points; while Whitley Schirmer had eight points. Alysa Parr had four points; McKayli Scudder and Mackenzie Covington each had two points; and Mallory Phagan chipped in one point.

On Sunday the Lady Pacers traveled to Southwestern and played a strong first half before falling by a score of 49-16.

Whitley Schirmer’s six points led Switzerland County; with Taylar Jordan and McKayli Scudder each adding four points. Alysa Parr finished with two points in the loss.

The team record now stands at 8-8 with two games remaining.
