6th straight ORVC track title for Lady Pacers

  Led by individual champions Leah Anders and Aleiah Thomas, as well as strong efforts from first place relay teams, the Switzerland County Lady Pacer track team won the Ohio River Valley Conference for the sixth straight year.

  Led by individual champions Leah Anders and Aleiah Thomas, as well as strong efforts from first place relay teams, the Switzerland County Lady Pacer track team won the Ohio River Valley Conference for the sixth straight year.

  Anders has been absolutely dominant in the 800-meter run this year, and Tuesday night was no exception, as she claimed the title with a time of 2:28.56, nearly seven full seconds ahead of the second place runner.

  Thomas earned the blue ribbon in the high jump, , clearing a height of 4’11” in the final.

  Switzerland County’s championship efforts were aided by winning all three relay events. In the 3,200-meter relay, the quartet of Anders, Keirstan Oeffinger, Matty Anderson, and Abby Niswander won in a time of 11:08.88; the 400-meter relay team of Jayden Thomas, Sydney Thomas, Willow Lieland, and Aleiah Thomas won in a time of :54.14; and the 1,600-meter relay team of Ally Furnish, Niswander, Oeffinger, and Anders earned the blue ribbon with a time of 4:39.66.

  As a team, Switzerland County finished with 125 points to easily earn the title, with Southwestern and Milan finishing in a tie for second, each with 68 points; South Ripley was fourth with 63 points; Jac-Cen-Del was fifth with 52 points; Rising Sun finished with 50 points; and Shawe Memorial had 38 points.

  Niswander was second in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash; Anders was second in the 1,600-meter run; Furnish was second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Oeffinger was third in the 800-meter run;

High School Girls Champions

  Anderson was fourth in the 400-meter dash; Allison Detmer was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles; Lieland was fourth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Furnish was sixth in the 200-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles; Brianna Vinup was eighth in the 3,200-meter run; and Destine Peelman was 10th in the 1,600-meter run.

  In field events:

  Jody Breeck was second in the shot put and fourth in the discus; Aleiah Thomas was third in the long jump; Lieland was fifth in the long jump; Madesyn Byrd was sixth in the discus and seventh in the shot put; and Josie Meyer was eighth in the high jump.

  The Lady Pacers now prepare for the IHSAA Girls Track Sectional, which will be held this Tuesday, May 15th at Jeffersonville High School.
