46 Students attain high school equivalency diploma

The Education Center of Rising Sun hosted the high school equivalency graduation ceremony for the 46 graduates at the Schroeder Building in Rising Sun on Thursday, July 27th.

It was a festive occasion starting with a slide presentation of the graduates for the huge gathering of family and friends. A delicious meal was served before Debbie Thomason, director of the Education Center of Rising Sun, introduced special guests for the evening. They were Peg Dickson, Executive Director of Ohio County Community Foundation and husband; Sandra Bowlus, HSE teacher; Molly Dodge, Director of RVR Adult Education; Mandi Logsdon, RVR Coordinator; Mindy Smith, Administrative Assistant for Education Center; Deb Cole, WIOA Youth Coordinator; city councilman Dennis Williams and wife; Deedee Cochran Brown, president of OCCF board; and Georgetta Mulholland, former HSE student and college graduate and guest speaker.

Fourteen of the 46 graduates were present to receive a special recognition and walk wearing their caps and gowns. Concluding the ceremony, pictures were taken with family and friends. From the 46 students who completed, their ages ranged from 17 to 52 years of age, coming from Ohio, Dearborn, Ripley and Switzerland County. Former graduate Georgetta Mulholland is a mom and grandma who obtained her HSE Diploma in 2013-14.
