4-H Entomology team earns fourth straight state title

The championship junior team from Switzerland County has become the championship senior team.

For the fourth year in a row, the 4-H Entomology Judging Team from Switzerland County – which now competes in the senior (high school) division – earned first place at the State Entomology Judging contest.

Senior team members are: Lisa Cunningham, Andrea Hall and Laney Proffet.

The junior team (3rd-8th grade) – in their first time together as a competing team – earned second place at State. Junior team members are: Patty Miller, Jenal Flynn, Levi Baker, Raven Frazier, Andrew Romans and Sorren Russell.

The contest was held on December 10th at Purdue University in West Lafayette, where the top teams from Indiana’s 92 counties met for the final exam in Purdue’s Career Development Event. In addition to Entomology there are similar competitions in Crops and Forestry. The event is open to all Indiana 4-H and FFA club members.

Both junior and senior teams earned their trip to State by placing first at the area contest in November. They have spent many hours preparing and practicing for the test, and again this year their hard work paid off. The team is coached by Jenny Slover and Milan Busching.
