Switzerland County will crown its new Queen tonight (Thursday, June 27th), as the 2019 Miss Switzerland County of the 4-H Fair contest is held.
The pageant will be held in the cafeteria of Switzerland County High School and will begin at 7 p.m. There is no admission charge.
This year there are four contestants for the crown, with the winner and her court reigning over this year’s fair, which will be held July 6th-13th.
There are four young ladies vying for the title:
— HAILEY ROSE DORNBUSCH is the daughter of Chris and Jennifer Dornbusch of near Vevay. She is 18 years old, and is a recent graduate of Switzerland County High School, and also from Ivy Tech Community College. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Rivertown Photo Booth.
Hailey graduated fifth overall in her class; and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was the President of the Student Council; was a three time participant in the NASP World Tournament; and is the school record holder as the top female shooter.
She is involved in the Switzerland County 4-H program; and her hobbies include cooking, modeling, and playing the flute.
Hailey’s career ambition is to become a better chef by earning a bachelor’s degree in restaurant management with a concentration in culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University.
— HAILEY NICOLE GERSTER is 18 years old and is the daughter of Chad and Crystal Higgins of near Fairview. She is a graduate of Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in the pageant this year by Bear Branch Supply.
Hailey earned inclusion on the Honor Roll all four years during high school; and was very active in the Switzerland County FFA program. In FFA she served as an officer for three years, and earned a place in the Top Ten in the FFA’s National Agriscience Fair. She also served as the 4-H Youth Representative on the Switzerland County Farm Bureau, Inc., board.
In 4-H, she has earned Reserve Grand Champion and Grand Champion honors with rabbits, beef, swine, tobacco, garden, single vegetable, preservation, corn, and earned Senior Showmanship honors. At the Indiana State Fair, she earned fourth place in preservation.
Hailey plans to attend Purdue University to major in agriculture education with a dual minor in soil science and animal nutrition; and plans on being an agriculture teacher.
— ALLEE HOWLETT is a graduate of Rising Sun High School, and is being sponsored in the pageant this year by Vevay Media Group. She is 18 years old, and is the daughter of Aimee Howlett Ballard of Rising Sun.
She was the first runner up in the Swiss Wine Festival Teen Princess contest; and was the second runner up in the Miss Switzerland County Fair Queen pageant. She serves as the President of her 4-H Club; has served as a counselor at 4-H Camp, as well as a group leader and junior director. She is a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church Youth Group, and is a 10-year member of 4-H.
While in high school Allee participated in volleyball, soccer, basketball, and track, as well as student council and the Prom Committee. She enjoys hunting and fishing and other outdoor activities.
Allee’s career ambition is to become a registered nurse and work with children in the endocrinology field and/or the NICU.
— KAITLYN YEARY is the daughter of Jennifer Coy of Markland Pike, and is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by Patience Dean Photography. She is 17 years old, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School.
Kaitlyn has been the first runner up and the fourth runner up in the Teen Princess pageant of the Swiss Wine Festival and was the third runner up in the Queen of Hearts pageant. She was selected to be a part of the Sophomore Leadership Program; and earned the Outstanding Student Award for cosmetology at the Southeastern Career Center. She is a part of the varsity soccer and track teams; is secretary of Skills USA; has earned inclusion in the National Honor Society; and is a member of student council, FFA, and is a nine year 4-H member. She is a member of 7 Hills Church and the Switzerland Baptist Church Youth Group.
Kaitlyn’s career ambition is to enlist in the U.S. Army or Air Force Reserves and be a therapy tech and then continue on to college to become a physical therapist while doing cosmetology on the side.
