Fresh off of elections for town council members in Patriot and Vevay, the new year will see another important election year in Switzerland County.
With 2008 also being a Presidential election year, there will be added attention on primary elections; and Indiana and Switzerland County will hold primaries on Tuesday, May 6th.
Candidates wanting to run for offices may begin signing up on Wednesday, January 23rd, in the Switzerland County Clerk’s office.
The deadline for filing for office is at noon on Friday, February 22nd.
County clerk Ginger Peters said that the following offices will be up for election this year:
– County Recorder. The post is currently held by Democrat Nancy Barker.
– County Treasurer. The post is currently held by Democrat Stacey Penick.
– County Coroner. The post is currently held by Democrat Rodney Nay.
– County Surveyor. The post is currently held by Republican Brian McAllister.
– County Commissioner, District One. The post is currently held by Republican Brian Morton.
– County Commissioner, District Two. The post is currently held by Republican K.C. Banta.
– County Council At Large. Those three positions are currently held by Republican John Keeton; Democrat Steve Crabtree; and Democrat Darrell Hansel.
– All Republican precinct committeemen positions are up for election. They will serve four year terms.
Also: anyone wanting to register to vote or who needs to change their address may do so in the clerk’s office until Monday, April 7th.
